At the beginning of December, Year 12 students on the Higher Education Access Programme for Schools (HEAPS) went on their first trip to visit Warwick University.  They attended taster lectures as well as having the chance to meet undergraduate students and talk to them about what university life is really like. Over 150 students attended the three day trip.

Simran Sharma, a student from Dormer Wells High School, gave us an account of her trip:

“This trip by far exceeded my expectations. The day started off with a lecture about the history of Warwick University which then led to our taster sessions that we had previously selected; mine being “medical school”. Although I have not made a permanent decision about the kind of course I would like to study at university, this was an opportunity to explore a subject that might interest me or that I might totally disregard in the future. The taster sessions also gave us a snapshot of what the life of a Warwick University student is like in that specific field.

"The campus tour was one of my favourite parts of the day. A current student from the university was assigned to one or two HEAPS students and gave them a tour, pointing out all the key features of the university such as the Sports centre and the Library. The one to one conversations allowed us to clear any doubts straight away as there was no need to hesitate when asking questions.

"Overall, this trip was definitely worth going on because it emphasized the importance of choosing the right university and how vital it is to get the required grades in order to pursue your favourite subject. However, the trip would have been impossible without the HEAPS team so thank you, once again!”
