education matters to society

It is linked to happiness, mental and physical health, life expectancy, crime rates and the economy. If you had the opportunity to make a difference to education, what would you change?

We want to hear your ideas about how to improve education for everyone. Our annual competition, in association with Pearson's My Education initiative, is your chance to have your say and turn your ideas into actions.

This year's prize includes an internship at Teach First for the Further and Higher education category winners, where you will work across a range of departments that may include Communications, Press and Public Affairs, Strategy and Community Impact teams, enhancing your CV through valuable work experience. They will also win a tablet computer.

The school level winner will win a tablet computer which is kindly being provided by Pearson.

The WWYC entries are currently being judged and the top entries from each category will be shortlisted. The shortlist will be announced at the beginning of June. Shortlisted entries will be reviewed by a panel of three judges at a prize giving event in July where the overall category winners will be announced. Watch this space for more information on the shortlist and next steps. Good luck!

Judging

The competition will be judged by a panel of leading education experts. Last year’s judges included BBC education correspondent Reeta Chakrabarti and Professor Becky Francis, Director of the Pearson Centre for Policy and Learning.

The judges will be reviewing the video and text entries according to the following criteria:

  • The entry is a well thought through and provides an implementable solution to an issue facing UK education
  • The entry provides an engaging and creative answer to the question that is likely to enable a better learning experience for pupils in the UK.

The winners will be announced at a prize giving event which is likely to take place in late June/early July – details will be confirmed nearer the time.

 Jenny Deloitte

The competition has sparked conversations in other organisations who are also asking "what would you change about education in the UK?" The Education Consulting team at Deloitte have been undertaking their own What Would You Change activities and finding out what their colleagues would like to change about education. They shared their views at an Education Community Networking event and generating awareness about this important debate.

Top priorities discussed by the team included providing more support for those individuals who don't go on to university, a greater focus on careers and higher education options advice throughout high school, and improving the profile, training and understanding of apprenticeships.
