| It's 8:59am on a cold Monday morning in December. You’re sitting in a badly lit classroom somewhere in London, Greater Manchester or the Midlands– a rusty radiator rattles in the corner as it desperately tries to heat the freezing cold room. Outside the room you can hear the voices of 29 children waiting to enter, many of them carrying the weight of emotion and scarred by experiences that would destroy most adults. Many in the class have little comprehension of the importance of education and see school as an extension of a system that has so far failed them. They enter the room and look to you for guidance and hope.
How would you react? Would you survey your class and see failure, believing that you |
do not possess the skills or ability to adapt and lead these pupils to a successful future?
Or, would you see this as a challenge that could be overcome through your creativity, drive, humility, high expectations and leadership skills, aided by the Teach First support system?
We at Teach First, as well as our sponsors, are looking for individuals who see potential where others see only problems and can bring success-orientation to even the most difficult situations.
