Successful applicants will be invited to an Assessment Centre. These will run from 10am to 4pm and will usually be based at our offices in Canary Wharf, London. Each day will consist of the following sections:

Competency-based interview
The Assessment Centre will start with a one-on-one interview with one of the assessors. The interview will last for approximately 30 minutes, at the end of which you will have the chance to ask any questions you may have about the programme or your application.

Case study and debrief
This section is designed to test how you think, solve problems, express solutions and interact with other people. The exercise will last for 50 minutes at the end of which you will have the chance to evaluate your performance in a one-on-one debrief with an assessor.

Sample teaching lesson and debrief
You will be asked to deliver a pre-prepared 7 minute lesson on the National Curriculum subject chosen on your application form. The lesson should be aimed at an audience of Key Stage 3 (11-14yrs) pupils but will be delivered to one assessor and one teacher. The assessors will be looking for you to demonstrate your ability to communicate your chosen topic to pupils in an appropriate and creative manner. You will be sent all the relevant details needed for the sample teaching lesson one week prior to your Assessment Centre.

This section will end with a one-on-one debrief with an assessor, where you will be given the opportunity to evaluate your performance during the lesson.

Candidates who succeed at the Assessment Centre will be invited to become Teach First participants, subject to successful completion of an on-line Subject Knowledge Audit which will be assessed by a subject teaching specialist, security clearance through a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check, reference checks, degree classification and selection validation.

All candidate information received by Teach First will be kept in the strictest confidence.

Standards for Qualified Teacher Status
Everyone who trains to be a teacher has to meet national Standards for qualified teacher status (QTS) published in Qualifying to teach by the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA). Evidence from all aspects of the Teach First assessment process will be collated to enable us to decide if you have the knowledge, skills and qualities needed to meet these standards through the intensive Teach First initial teacher education programme. In particular, we will take into account evidence that you will have high expectations, respect for and commitment to your pupils and that you will promote your commitment to the principles of equal opportunities and race equality which underpin the programme.
