Teach First's selection process, while highly rigorous, is designed to be both efficient and thorough. The selection process consists of the following:

Online application
Teach First only accepts applications online. To apply, you will need to register your details as an applicant, creating a password that will be emailed to you. This will allow you to log in and manage your application.

The application form is an important part of the assessement process. We will use it to explore your understanding of Teach First, the match between your values and qualities and those needed for the programme, and your ability to make a case for yourself in sound written Standard English.

Once you have completed and submitted the application form, you will receive a response on our decision by email within 10 days. Successful applicants will be invited to attend one of our assessment centres.

Assessment day
These will be ongoing from June 2008. Find out more about assessment days by clicking here.

Tips on applying
We appreciate how long the form takes to complete, therefore here are a few tips that you may find useful in preparing your application.

Thoroughly research Teach First and the role of a participant before applying.
Think about what we are looking for throughout the selection process and demonstrate how you have gained these skills.
You may wish to draft parts of it online using the form printing facility.
Please ensure that all dates are in chronological order and that all information is correct including date of birth. Also, check for accuracy and spelling.

Application Deadlines:

If you are interested in becoming an inspirational leader and contributing to the Teach First Mission then please apply now.

We have two deadlines for applications, a winter deadline of 5th December 2008 and a final deadline of 3rd April 2009.

It is strongly recommended that you apply early.

Unfortunately we are not able to accept applications from international candidates requiring work permits.

Please Note: Due to an unprecedented number of applications since opening places for the 2009 programme, we are currently unable to receive further applications from candidates who are only able to teach Art, Citizenship, Geography, History and Religious Education.

Changes to TDA requirements to teach last year meant that a good number of 2008 participants are successfully teaching subjects based on their A level rather than degree level knowledge. Therefore, if you had wanted to apply for History we encourage you to evaluate the other options available to you.  If you have received an A or B at A Level in one of our other teaching subjects you are advised to submit your application as soon as possible.

If you have any questions please email faq@teachfirst.org.uk.
