In order to succeed as a Teach First participant, you will
need to work relentlessly towards ambitious goals,
effectively manage classes of students, develop short-
and long-term plans to help your pupils improve,
constantly assess your pupils' progress and learn to work
successfully with the administrators and teachers in
your unique school community. To  be able to do all
this, you will need two essential qualities.

"Teaching is by far the hardest thing I've ever done. I had only a short amount of time to transition from being a university student to being the leader for 100 young people.

"For the first time in my life I was really struggling at something. This was an experience new to me. But once I swallowed my pride, took responsibility for my classroom and asked for help I was able to start improving. Each day became filled with less challenges and more successes."

Tia Lendo, Teach For America Alumna

Over and above
You will need to have high expectations for your pupils and yourself to make a difference in your school. There will be many times when the tasks at hand seem impossible, and when you might be tempted to think your pupils lack what is required to succeed.

A positive outlook and the ability to think critically are crucial to your success when in situations such as this. You will have to balance difficult tasks, make plans to tackle obstacles along the way and have great reserves of patience to enable you to meet your goals.
  Respect and Humility
No teacher is successful at meeting their goals from the start. You will need to have respect and humility as you are faced with the most challenging situations and work with others to overcome them.

You will need to reflect on your own teaching to continue improving and you will need to ask for the help of others along the way. You must be able to admit failure in order to accept the support of others and improve. It is only by working with the people and resources around you that you will achieve success.
