Policy First is a series of publications from the charity Teach First, drawing on the experience of over 1,000 teachers who have worked at the chalk-face in some of the UK's most challenging schools over the past five years.

'Lessons from the Front: 1,000 new teachers speak up' is the first in the series of what is hoped will be a substantial contribution to the education policy debate, both in the UK and throughout the world.

We believe that Policy First is:

  • A valid contribution to education policy debate: Teach First does NOT claim a monopoly of wisdom.  It seeks to add to educational policy debate in the UK.
  • Written by teachers with a proven record of success: Independent evaluations, including an upcoming Ofsted inspection, have shown that the impact these teachers are making is positive.
  • Radical: Policy First does not shy away from proposing radical recommendations to Government on how to transform educational challenge into opportunity.
  • Furthering the Teach First Mission: The aim is to share the pool of knowledge built up by Teach First over the last five years and, in so doing, promote dialogue in all circles about how to address educational disadvantage.
