Teaching and Qualifying
You will teach in September, immediately following the Summer Institute.  You will enter teaching considered as an "unqualified teacher."

Since you will be an unqualified teacher, you will teach a reduced time table, just like your newly qualified teacher (NQT) counterparts.  By teaching, reflecting, and taking part in ongoing training from your school and Teach First, you will gain your qualified teacher status (QTS) at the end of your first year in the classroom.

Qualifying to Teach
During the year, your progress toward QTS will be assessed at many points in time.  Both your Teach First tutor and your school mentors will assist you in developing your teaching file of evidence to show that you should earn QTS.

At the end of your first year of teaching, a board of educators will review your portfolio to decide whether you will be awarded QTS.  We expect that all participants will earn qualified teacher status given the training offered.

In year two of the programme, you will be considered a newly qualified teacher (NQT).  As an NQT you may participate in your school's induction programme, which will usually include training sessions, orientations, and conferences.
