Teach First currently places participants in the London, North West and Midlands secondary schools that need them most. From 2007, Teach First began placing in secondary schools within the Midlands. We are an independent non-profit organisation, not a supply agency. Teach First is a unique route into teaching, backed by the DCSF, TDA and all of the major head teachers' and teaching unions. We aim to help schools that will really benefit from Teach First participants.

Our partner schools meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria: 30% of pupils receive free school meals or less than 25% of 15 year old pupils achieve five A*-C grades at GCSE level or equivalent. London schools may also qualify if they are within families 14-27 of the London Challenge (DCSF) Families of Schools. In addition to meeting initial eligibility criteria, participating schools must also demonstrate that they can provide the necessary support for the participants, who train while they are teaching.

We currently work with schools in the following London, North West and Midlands Local Authorities:

"Teach First is an innovative, exciting and above all successful programme to transform young peoples' opportunities and their lives. Whether Teach First recruits stay in teaching or move to other careers, they are contributing to a renaissance in urban education and are part of a network of leaders who are committed to delivering educational opportunity and raising standards for the future."

Participants are placed in groups within their schools, on average in groups of three. Our largest groups of participants teach the severe shortage subjects: Mathematics and Science; however, participants also teach other much needed subjects.
