Teach First is dependent on financial and non-financial support to ensure sustainability.

Private funding
Approximately half of Teach First's annual budget is raised from private sources through one-off and sustainable grants from businesses and charitable foundations. These organisations get involved with Teach First for a variety of reasons; some sponsor specific projects, others have affiliations with participating schools or a desire to support participants in specific subject areas. HSBC Global Education Trust and UBS are just two examples of these. Each have extended their support to Teach First with multi-year funding commitments.

School fees
Participating Teach First schools pay Teach First a small deposit plus an amount per participant per term. This money goes towards the cost of recruiting, training and supporting participants. This fee was agreed with the advice of our Schools Advisory Group, which includes head teachers of participating schools and Local Authority representatives. The fee was agreed on the basis that it would be affordable for all schools and highly competitive compared with alternative recruitment methods, while still contributing to costs incurred by Teach First.

Training and Development Agency (TDA)
The TDA has agreed to finance the cost of training our participants during the Summer Institute and the salaries of the tutors employed to support our participants in schools. These tutors visit the participants in schools and ensure that these participants are not just teaching their classes, but also living up to Teach First's expectations of using their creativity and drive to push their pupils above and beyond traditional expectations.

Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF)
The DCSF has agreed to give Teach First £2,000 per Teach First participant employed. Teach First pay this contribution directly to the schools. This pays for the mentoring time our participants will receive from the school as part of their commitment to the programme.

In kind
Teach First receives valuable non-financial support from its friends and sponsors. This includes office space from Canary Wharf Group as well as legal advice, consulting and office equipment from other organisations.

If you are an organisation or individual interested in providing financial or in-kind support to Teach First please contact Philip Fearn on 020 7517 2720.

"We are delighted to be co-founders of Teach First. I believe that Teach First will serve as an important way for London businesses to contribute to the improvement of secondary education in the capital. London First will encourage companies to support Teach First in a number of ways. Above all, we want them to understand the challenges facing the education sector and to recognise that the skills and experience gained by the individuals who take part in the Teach First scheme will make them extremely valuable, future employees."
