Teach First Staff

The North West Office

Teach First placed its first North West cohort in 2006 and has recently celebrated the graduation of this cohort to Ambassador status, as well as the expansion to Merseyside this year with the 2008 cohort.

Jo leads our North West Office and oversees all elements of the Teach First programme within the region including the placement of participants across Greater Manchester and Merseyside schools and the Leadership Development programme.  She also works with partner organisations within the region to increase community awareness.  Jo is a Teach First Ambassador, having taught Design Technology as part of the 2003 cohort at St Saviour’s and St Olave’s School in Elephant and Castle, London.  Whilst teaching, she set up the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and worked with an Architecture practice to engage her GCSE students in local regeneration projects having graduated with a degree in Architecture from the University of Manchester.

Faye Cassidy

Faye joined Teach First in June 2006 and is responsible for managing the North West Office and coordinating Leadership Development events. She comes from a varied charity fundraising background having volunteered from a young age for her local blind charity, before working full time for several charities including her most recent role where she worked for four years as a Fundraiser for a brain injury charity. Faye is really pleased to be working within both the charity and educational sector and also be working with her former secondary school, which is now a Teach First School.

Jen is responsible for supporting North West Teach First participants on their two year journey with a focus on educational elements of the Leadership Development programme. Jen is a Teach First Ambassador, having taught French and Spanish at North Manchester High School for Girls from 2006-2008. She describes her time at school as an amazingly intense experience during which she was given opportunities to learn lots about herself and how to work with others. The Teach First programme gave Jen the privilege of working with some inspiring individuals and she misses her pupils but decided to join the Teach First staff team in August 2008 to continue addressing educational disadvantage for pupils all over the North West. Jen is North West girl at heart – growing up in Liverpool before graduating from the University of Durham with BA Hons. in Modern European Languages.

Hayley joined the North West office in August 2008 as part of the Leadership Development Team where she focuses on organising a range of events for participants covering career support, skills workshops and master classes, sector days and coaching. She also provides pastoral support for participants in the North West as they take on classroom challenges. Hayley is a Teach First Ambassador having taught geography at Manchester Academy for two years as part of the ’06 cohort. During her teaching experience, Hayley set up the geography department, led various trips and set up a school allotment team. She graduated from Durham University with a BSc in Geography.
