Teach First Staff

Operations

The Operations team provide the support that the organisation needs to function efficiently and effectively. It is made up of five sub-teams: Corporate GovernanceFinance, IT, Facilities and Human Resources.

David joined Teach First in February 2009 as Director of Finance and Operations to oversee the key areas of Corporate Governance, Facilities, Finance, Human Resources, IT and Systems. He has a great assortment of experiences that he brings to the role, including as an Arthur Andersen consultant, Group Finance Director of a leisure company, Chief Financial Officer of an internet start-up, Controller at WPP group, and Investment Director at IBIS Capital. Even more importantly, he brings with him a great enthusiasm for our work and mission. David graduated from Cambridge and is a qualified Chartered Accountant.

Corporate Governance

Anesta is one of the original staff members of Teach First dating back to its pre-launch in 2002. Her experience in the team has varied from operations to fund-raising. Anesta is responsible for governance and culture. Her experience with Teach First has provided a unique insight into some of the well publicised issues affecting schools and has fuelled her professional and personal interest to make a positive contribution to education. Before joining Teach First, Anesta worked as an Assessment Coordinator for an examination board and enjoyed her years in Merchandising for major UK fashion retailers. Anesta serves as a governor of two primary schools and graduated from the University of the Arts London.

Matthew Horine

Following 10 years negotiating and managing strategic business relationships at DIRECTV, the leading satellite television provider in the US, Matt joined Teach First in the North West office based in Manchester.  Over the last two years Matt was responsible for supporting the Teach First teachers in the North West on their two year journey, with a focus on managing the Leadership Development programme. He now has responsibility for managing the organisation's IT systems and processes.

Joining the Operations team in Jan 2009, Gareth takes responsibility for managing the Facilities function on behalf of Teach First. He brings with him over 10 years facilities management experience predominantly in the legal and financial sectors. Having enjoyed the best part of his career at Russell Cooke Solicitors he took a year off and travelled around the world spending time in India, South East Asia, Australasia and South America. After returning he was employed as a Facilities Manager at Dawnay Day International managing facilities services for over 200 staff across 3 sites. He is now driven to provide the optimum working environment to support each Teach First staff member to meet their individual and organisational goals.

Human Resources
Sharon Feeney

Sharon brings 8 years experience to her role of Human Resources Manager.  Having worked in security, hospitality and shipping, Sharon’s experience in the HR environment has been extremely varied and quite challenging.  Sharon comes to Teach First with a wealth of knowledge that aims to ensure that Teach First continues to be a best practice employer.  Sharon spent some time living in South Africa and studied there for a while during the early nineties.  Since returning to the UK she has continued her studies and undertook her CIPD training. Sharon’s strengths lie in her knowledge of developing policies and procedures, recruitment, employee relations and developing systems to ensure the smooth running of the HR function.
