Professor Sonia Blandford

Sonia has an extensive portfolio in education encompassing teaching, leadership, research and publications.  As former Pro-Vice Chancellor and Dean of Education at Canterbury Christ Church University, Sonia has been involved with Teach First since the beginning of the programme.  She has published over 50 articles and books focusing on middle leadership, special educational needs, early years, professional development, financial management and classroom management and behaviour.  Sonia has taught in primary and secondary schools in Yorkshire, Wiltshire, Bath, London and Bristol.  She is also the founder of two community arts charities and founding Trustee of three Academies. Sonia has a Doctorate in Education from the University of Bristol, MPhil from the University of Bath, MA in Music from the University of Reading, and a Cert Ed and a BEd from Bretton Hall College, University of Leeds. Sonia holds several honarary titles as Visiting Professor - Institute of Education (London) and Brunel University; Associate Professor - University of Chichester and Senior Research Fellow - University of Oxford; and is an European Union expert on professional development.

Maximum Impact Programme

The Maximum Impact Programme aims to determine how our Participants can make the maximum impact on educational disadvantage in their time teaching. It is currently funded by the Goldman Sachs Foundation.

As a product of inner-city schools in South Central Los Angeles, Treina has a personal commitment to promoting educational equality and opportunity for all children. She heads the Training & Support team and has primary responsibilty for coordinating school placements and the Summer Institute. Prior to joining Teach First, she served as a Teach For America corps member and taught 11 to 14 year olds in EAL and Gifted & Talented classes across four subjects. She also worked on Teach For America's summer institute as a School Director. Treina graduated from Harvard University with a BA (Hons) in Government and a Masters degree in Public Policy (MPP).
