Selection
Teach First runs assessment days which have been developed with its employer partners and education specialists to select outstanding graduates. The selection criteria are among the most rigorous of any employer, and ensure that Teach First participants have the energy, commitment and ability to communicate required to succeed in secondary classrooms, as well as the potential to become outstanding leaders in any field. To find out more about our selection process and to apply click here.

Training
Teach First, together with its education and leadership development training partners, aims to deliver high-quality accredited teacher training and recognised and respected leadership education. Training at Teach First is designed to be highly practical, for immediate application on the job and with a clear purpose. An external education training provider delivers the summer training for participants, with the aim of putting them on the path towards qualified teacher status. This training has a special focus on dealing with issues in challenging secondary school education. The leadership development course, delivered with the Tanaka Business School at Imperial College London and the Institute of Education, aims to draw in practical insider perspectives from a range of employers - leveraging Teach First's unique, independent position as an employer for employers. Visit The Facts to find out more about training at Teach First.

Placement and support
It can be tough working in challenging secondary schools. Teach First spends a lot of time ensuring that participants are placed in teams in each school, and that skills and interests are matched to the needs and environment of individual schools. We only work with schools that are able to support participants and help them to succeed, in particular through providing in-school subject and professional mentors. In addition to supporting participants on the ground through frequent tutor visits, Teach First provides additional support through social and professional development events, and on-line tools designed to make life easier for busy participants. In the second year, volunteer coaches support participants as they get clear on their goals for the future and increase their impact within the classroom. Visit The Facts to find out more about support for participants at Teach First. Explore the Schools section to find out how Teach First works with and supports schools.

Ambassadors programme
The ambassadors programme at Teach First starts from day one, with a lively schedule of networking events, social interest groups, knowledge management tools, career support and emerging alumni career networks. The long-term aim of Teach First's Ambassadors Programme will be to develop a distinctive, well-resourced and committed body of future leaders who will invest in and rapidly aggregate the targeted resources, influence and skills required to improve the education of children in challenging schools, to begin to address the root causes of poverty. To find out more about our ambassadors programme, click here.

"I am pleased for Canary Wharf to be one of the founding sponsors of Teach First. This programme will have an impact throughout London, as well as in our immediate neighbourhood of Tower Hamlets where many of our local secondary schools struggle to attract the number of excellent teachers they deserve. I believe the business community of London should rise to the challenge of this innovative business-government partnership by recognising the programme's value to participants' CVs, as well as through internships, business mentoring, training and financial support."
