Top recruiters look for graduates not just with raw talent, but also a track record of making things happen. Through Teach First, you will gain leadership, communication and influencing skills that are often difficult to build as a junior or graduate recruit in a large organisation. The leadership development course will help you translate these classroom skills into the world of leadership and entrepreneurship.

Leadership
There are many graduates, yet few leaders. At Teach First, you will learn how to guide a diverse range of individuals to somewhere they may not want to go, while maintaining respect. You will learn to praise, guide, command authority and maintain respect.

Humility, Respect and Empathy
Outstanding leaders are also humble. Working in a challenging school also means being able to draw upon the insights and advice of more experienced staff, as well as parents, governors and senior managers. By doing Teach First you will learn how to lead through your ability to humbly empathise and deal with stakeholders at every level.

Motivating and influencing skills
Successful teachers learn the difference between telling and selling. In teaching and in business it is not enough to be right: you have to win people over by motivating and inspiring them. Through Teach First, you will inspire pupils to try harder and challenge themselves further than they ever thought possible. Your influence will extend far beyond the classroom.

"When you look at the variety of supporters and the training and career advice on the programme, it is hard to imagine not having a successful career after the two years. I am proud to be part of the programme, and know it will leave a lasting impact upon anything I choose to do in the future."

"Early in their careers most people learn technical skills: auditing, dealing, programming. These are not the skills that are needed to succeed long term. Future leaders learn early on the tough skills of managing people, leadership, initiative and entrepreneurialism. Teach First helps graduates gain these skills – skills for a lifetime which lead to the top."
