Few opportunities allow you to do something socially responsible, while training you for leadership in the world of work. Explore the elements of the programme that will help you make a difference.

Direct responsibility
Few opportunities straight out of university will give you the prospect to do something worthwhile, and none will give you this much responsibility. Day to day, you will be working with pupils who will look to you for direct guidance, knowledge and support. You will have the chance to directly influence achievement and effect change.

Real challenges
Children growing up in the inner cities often live in circumstances that make their education particularly challenging. Teach First participants will find their roles extending beyond the classroom. They become guidance counsellors, advisors, and confidants. They will lead sports or academic activities outside the classroom, and bring in resources. They will do whatever it takes to achieve success.

Measurable, life-changing impact
Teach First participants will need to go beyond what is typically required to achieve classroom success. Our training and support will provide you with the skills to help your pupils close the achievement gap with other more privileged areas. Through hard work, high expectations and determination, you will help pupils fulfil their potential. Find out more about the kind of measurable impact you can make by reviewing the McKinsey report on secondary education in London and the role additional excellent teachers can play.

"When I read about Teach First last year, it grabbed me straight away. Here was a chance to get real life experience, responsibility and development. It was also one of the biggest challenges of all the jobs out there... I don't know any of my friends who are going on to do something quite this high impact. Teach First seems a little 'bigger' than the rest."

Tom Evans - Teach First Ambassador 2003

"Even taking deprivation levels into account, 'excellent' teachers can increase the percentage of pupils who gain 5+ A*-C GCSE's by 40% over what would normally be expected."
