Thirteen years of e for education

Thirteen years of e for education

This September, with leading global bank, Citi, we’re kickstarting the 2018 e for education campaign. We are delighted to be part of this philanthropic initiative for the sixth consecutive year. Since 2013, the hugely generous donations from the campaign have enabled us to change the lives of over 185,000 children from low-income communities.

E for education has raised over £2.4m towards our work. This has had a direct impact on our ability to find and develop incredible teachers and leaders who work in schools in disadvantaged communities across England and Wales.

There are millions of children growing up in poverty in the UK, and the odds are stacked against them.

That’s why Teach First was set up, and it’s why we work with partners like Citi. We believe all young people deserve a brilliant education, regardless of where they come from. Together, we bring those young people from the back of the queue in-line with everyone else, giving them access to inspiring role models and connections whose paths they wouldn’t otherwise cross.

During the ten-week campaign, Citi and its foreign exchange business will donate US$1 for every US$1 million FX traded electronically. The funds raised through transactions will be split across ten beneficiary charities around the world.

Nadir Mahmud, Citi’s Global Head of Foreign Exchange and Local Markets said, “With an estimated 260 million children failing to acquire basic literacy skills worldwide, we have a crucial responsibility to invest in the next generation by facilitating access the essential resources that young people need to realize their full potential.”

Citi has been one of our most important partners, working with us for over 16 years, raising over £3.6 million, and supporting some of our most important initiatives. In that time, we have and will continue to work side-by-side to tackle educational disadvantage in England and Wales.

Without the support of our corporate partners like Citi, and the e for education campaign, our work would simply not be possible.

Since 2013, donations from Citi E for Education have totaled over US$22.5 million. Find out more about e for education on Citi's website.
