Change careers to teach
We value the different perspectives and experiences that people who change careers bring to teaching.
This year, 31% of participants starting on our Leadership Development Programme came from other careers.
Although our recruitment process is the same for all applicants, we understand that personal circumstances differ, and aim to be as flexible as we can to help you overcome any barriers to joining the programme. Your Teach First recruiter can offer you specialist advice on how to join our Leadership Development Programme as a career changer.
If you'd like to speak to a recruiter and find out more, we have regular coffee and phone appointments running across the UK, specifically for those considering changing career to join our Leadership Development Programme.

Time to Teach programme
We know how difficult it is to make the leap to becoming a teacher. We also know how valuable the experience of someone who has worked in another field before becoming a teacher can be in the classroom. We have designed a new teacher training programme specifically for people looking to change career and start teaching, which will make that transition easier. We are launching this Time to Teach programme this year in the Greater Manchester and South Yorkshire areas, looking for people willing to become teachers of English, Maths or Science. If teaching these subjects in these areas excites you, find out more and make your application.
