Teaching Assistant Fast Track

The accelerated route to teacher training for talented classroom support staff.

Nominate your staff

Teaching Assistant Fast Track

Talented teachers are vital but hard to find. With our new TA Fast Track, headteachers can develop and retain talented classroom support staff by nominating them for an accelerated route onto our Leadership Development Programme (LDP).

Many Teaching Assistants and other classroom support staff have knowledge of their schools and are committed to their local communities, but lack the formal training to be classroom leaders. By joining our LDP they can train for a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) while still working in their current schools.

How it works:

You must be the headteacher of your school to nominate your support staff by Wednesday 1 May to ensure they can begin teaching in September 2019. Nominated staff undergo a basic eligibility check for our Leadership Development Programme (LDP) and don't have to complete a full application. If eligible, they'll be placed at your school as an LDP participant.

The route is open to all teaching assistants (TA), Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTA), Cover Supervisors (CS) or Unqualified Teachers (UT). To be eligible for our LDP, a candidate needs:

  • A 2.2 degree or above
  • A degree or A-level (at least Grade B) in the subject to be taught
  • Grade C (or equivalent) in GCSE maths and English (Grade C in one science subject is also required for primary teaching)

Want to learn more about what TA Fast Track can do for your school? We'd be happy to help.

“Our experience with Teach First has been really positive. We have trainees in their first and second years and they’re progressing fantastically.”

Mandy Lancy, Executive Primary Principal, Oak Hill and Oriel Academies, Hounslow

Could you be a candidate for TA Fast Track?

If you're a Teaching Assistant, Higher Level Teaching Assistant, Cover Supervisor or Unqualified Teacher, TA Fast Track could make it much easier for you to secure a place on our Leadership Development Programme.

If you’re interested in starting teaching in September 2019, your headteacher will need to nominate you by Wednesday 1 May 2019.
