Whilst we realise that not knowing your placement school yet can be scary, we promise that it’s totally normal. The cut off point for teachers handing in their notice has just passed so many schools have only now begun letting us know how many Teach First participants they can take on.

Teach First ambassador Lorna was nervous that she was late to hear about her school placement, as she had known her region for a while.

“I was nervous about not hearing. My friends and family would ask me where I was going to be, and I would have to keep on saying that I don’t know and reassure them that I would definitely be placed.”

On the Monday before Summer Institute, Lorna received a call to say that she had been placed at London Fields Primary School in Hackney. During Summer Institute, she made friends with various participants that were going to live and teach close to where she was moving. Now she couldn’t imagine teaching anywhere else, or why she was so worried about not knowing her school.

“Once I knew my school, I wondered what I was worrying so much about in the first place! We were grouped at Summer Institute according to where we were going to teach. I would encourage people still waiting for a school allocation to not worry as naturally, you make friends on the programme that will be living and working nearby, and these are still some of my closest friends.”
