A new model of leadership

In partnership with The Reach Foundation, Teach First is launching a brand-new leadership framework.

Rather than a static list of traits, the new framework focuses on a recurring rhythm of learning, imagining, connecting, and acting.

Have your say

Our upcoming leadership events offer an exciting opportunity for educators and system leaders to explore our emerging leadership framework and help shape its future direction.

Through these deep dive sessions, running across London, Leeds, Bristol, and online this March, you’ll engage with ideas that centre on learning, imagining, connecting and acting, while contributing insights that will directly influence how we support leadership across the sector.

Join us to connect with peers, share expertise, and play a part in cocreating a framework that strengthens leadership at every level.

Why we are embarking on this work

Leadership stands at the heart of Teach First’s mission to build a movement of Change Makers committed to addressing educational disadvantage.

While exceptional classroom teaching is crucial, research consistently demonstrates that effective school leadership is the single most influential factor in improving outcomes for pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds (Leithwood et al, 2006). Moreover, strong leadership is vital for supporting teachers to remain in the profession and progress in their careers (EEF, 2023).

What we are expecting to achieve

Teach First is developing a new framework of leadership with the primary aim of addressing the gap in middle leadership, to build the practice of leadership in the sector and to address the needs of schools serving disadvantaged communities.

The framework will shape the delivery of our leadership programmes and provide a tool to evaluate and design new products and services around leadership.
