Becoming a Teach First coach
Our coaches come from diverse professional fields - education, finance, healthcare, consulting, and more - bringing valuable skills and perspectives to support educators facing the toughest challenges.
We welcome both experienced coaches and those new to coaching.
All coaches get specialist training in coaching techniques before the programme starts. All we ask for is your time and commitment, and 3+ years professional experience.
How it works
Applications will open in November 2026, for the 2027 Coaching programme.
Once successful, coaches are matched with one of our teachers, usually around March.
Our Coaching programme runs for 12 months and during that time, you will run regular one-to-one online sessions (a minimum of six). These can be done from anywhere, so there are no geographical restrictions.
How you can make a difference
Our teachers work in schools serving the most disadvantaged communities in England. As a coach, you can volunteer your time to help our teachers make an even greater difference to the lives of young people.
Your expertise, time and commitment will help our teachers achieve their personal and professional goals, and address the challenges they face in school.
As a coach, you’ll get:
- bespoke, high-quality training from qualified coaches
- year-round support and regular newsletters with stories from the coaching community
- a coach handbook with full details about the opportunity
- insight into the impact our teachers have and how you’ve helped them achieve this
To be a coach you'll need:
- over three years’ experience working in a professional setting
- a desire to learn and develop coaching techniques to support teachers
- commitment to preparing for and leading regular coaching sessions (dates and times to be agreed with the individual you’re coaching)
- commitment to our vision that education is the most powerful tool to help a child fulfil their potential
