How do I register my ECTs and mentors on to Early Career Training Programme?

To access the Early Career Training Programme (ECTP), schools must register their Early career teachers (ECTs) and mentors through the Department for Education (DfE) service and work with an approved local Delivery partner.

Registration Process

Step 1: Find Your Local Delivery partner

Identify your local Delivery partner responsible for delivering the programme in your area:  https://www.teachfirst.org.uk/knowledge-base/early-career-framework/delivery-partners

Step 2: Confirm Programme Delivery

Contact your chosen Delivery partner to confirm they can deliver the programme to your school before completing registration.

Step 3: Register Your ECTs and mentors

Your school induction tutor should register all ECTs and mentors using the DfE service:

https://www.register-early-career-teachers.education.gov.uk/

You will need the following information for each ECT and mentor:

  • Full name
  • Teacher Reference Number (TRN)
  • Date of birth
  • Email address
  • Start date (if transferring from another school)

Completing Registration on the DfE Service

When registering participants, the DfE service will ask you to:

  1. Add your ECTs and mentors and enter their details.
  2. Select Teach First as the lead provider.
  3. Nominate your school's Appropriate Body.

*Please note: For schools that previously worked with Teach First for the ECTP 2025 cohort, induction tutors can retain the school's existing programme selections when adding new ECTs or mentors. This will automatically carry forward the relevant appropriate body, lead provider and delivery partner details for those participants.

Important

Please ensure that:

  • Each ECT is correctly linked to their mentor.
  • The induction tutor's email address is up to date within the DfE service.

This enables mentors and induction tutors to access the audit functionality within the Brightspace platform.

  • Please ensure that you have checked your main Inbox, SpamJunk, and Quarantine folders for the welcome/activation email.
