Our teaching programme
How our teacher training works
The Leadership Development Programme is one of the most prestigious graduate schemes, ranked 4th in The Times Top 100 graduate employers. You train to teach in the classrooms where you are needed most. Unlike most graduate schemes, you make a real difference from day one. What will I achieve?
The programme lasts two years. You gain Qualified Teacher Status in your first year and complete your Newly Qualified Teacher placement in year two. You develop considerable teaching and leadership skills – our alumni are seven times more likely to be promoted to school leadership roles. They're also highly attractive to leading employers in a wide range of sectors. Why choose Teach First?
You earn a salary while you train, and gain a Postgraduate Diploma in Education and Leadership (PGDE, worth double the credits of a PGCE). You also join a unique network of 8,000+ teachers and former teachers who share a commitment to creating lasting change in education. It’s an inspiring community that lets you join forces - online and in person - to share ideas. Together you can help every young person get the education they deserve.
Here's how our teacher training programme works.
“We actively recruit from Teach First if we can, because they’re a different calibre of teachers. We know the quality of the trainees and the difference that they make is huge!”
Rose Hughes, Headteacher, Yardleys School, Birmingham

“At the beginning you know how I wasn’t really the greatest student, but because of you I achieved so much. You helped my confidence, it came out of me and I would like to thank you for that.”
