Token gestures: How can schools avoid reinforcing racial inequality?
Join us at the Festival of Education on 7 July to hear our panel discuss how schools can avoid reinforcing racial inequality.
Schools across the country are doing incredible anti-racism work so all their pupils feel seen, represented and celebrated. But how can we ensure that the curriculum – and individual schools’ policies – are fully and genuinely inclusive in terms of ethnicity, and not doing the bare minimum for performative and tick-boxing purposes?
This panel will be led by:
- Joanne Benjamin-Lewis – Development Lead, Teach First
- Safrina Ahmed – Programme Diversity & Inclusion Manager, Teach First
- Adam Vasco - Lecturer in Primary Education and EDI expert on Early Years, Liverpool John Moores University
- Stephanie Smailes – Curriculum Design Manager, Teach First
The festival is releasing a limited number of free tickets for state funded schools and colleges, please click here for more information. If you miss their ticket lottery, they’re also discounting tickets by a 1/3 for state schools and colleges.
